Brief history of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Western Australia

The Church of the Foursquare Gospel in Australia Inc., is the Western Australian branch of the denomination in Australia. It was born out of an evangelist endeavour in the 1920’s when an evangelist called Frederick van Eyk held gospel meetings. In the early 1950’s Elmer & Jean Darnell moved to Perth as missionaries and commenced Gospel meetings, set-up churches and a bible college. In the mid 1950’s, the Victoria Park Foursquare Gospel Church was built in Armagh Street by church member’s sacrificial donations to the building program. Other church buildings followed in Morley and other urban and country areas from Albany, to Bunbury, Manjimup, Katanning, to Geraldton and other places. Some of our churches currently meet in hired premises.

In the early days of the Church of the Foursquare Gospel in Australia, a dedicated Bible College called L.I.F.E. Bible College was established in Victoria Park, and many pastors and church leaders were trained there. Today, you can attend L.I.F.E. Bible College in the United States, or attend one of the theological or Christian ministry tertiary colleges in Perth or within Australia to meet the basic qualifications required of any licensed minister within the denomination.

Western Australian Foursquare churches have long histories with Papua New Guinean and Indonesian churches, with mission’s endeavours with mainly South-East Asian and African nations.
